Chop Kong Hing & the EMP Group of Companies

History
Chop Kong Hing, located in a pre-war shophouse around Melaka New Chinatown, at No. 12, Jalan Kee Ann, 75100 Melaka, was foundered in 1931 by an enterprising person named Kan Khing who was born in Southern China in 1894. He left South China alone and travelled to Malacca at the age of 16 in 1910. He worked hard & his trustworthiness was rewarded when his employer helped him venture into the pork business. He later expanded into general retailing and the manufacture of soya sauce. These businesses prospered until the 2nd. World War. After the war, Kan Khing was stricken with bad health and he passed away in September 1950 at the age of 56. After his death, Chop Kong Hing was managed by the oldest son of Kan Khing's elder brother. However in 1971, the assets (except the shophouse) of Chop Kong Hing was liquidated in a public auction to pay creditors.

To date,this unique pre-war shophouse, which is more than 75 years old, remains in the hands of Mr. Kang Weng Piew who is the only son of Kan Khing.

Establishing the EMP Group of Companies
To follow the enterprising footsteps of their grandfather, two grandsons namely Kang Tsi Yan & Kang Tsz Wong incorporated "Engmepho Professional Enteprise Sdn. Bhd" in 1984. Mr. Kang Weng Piew was appointed the Chairman of the company. This company was established to provide electrical consultancy services, general trading & the marketing of agricultural and industrial systems overseas.

In 1987, Engmepho Proprietory Limited, Adelaide, South Australia, was foundered by Vince Baker & F.M.Kang to provide digital drafting services and computer design services.

In 13th. September 1995, to streamline the activities of the company, "Engmepho Holdings Sdn. Bhd." was incorporated. Engmepho Professional Enterprise Sdn. Bhd. was bought over & it became a 100% owned subsidiary of Engmepho Holdings Sdn. Bhd. This holding company was formed to spearhead the investment & property arms of the EMP Group of Companies.

In 1999, Mr. Kang Tsi Yam ventured into the Internet retailing business by setting up "Malaysiastall.com" which sells & promotes Malaysian products via the Internet.

The Future
Though most activities of the Group were carried out in Kuala Lumpur, in 2001, an operational office with global Internet access was set up at No. 12, Jalan Kee Ann. This office is to become a base in Melaka for the Group. The EMP Group hopes to tap the tourism business potential in historic Melaka and to promote a new business & directory portal for "Melaka New Chinatown" currently being developed by the EMP Group.
