Purpose Of The Site

Tourism Melaka is a site which is dedicated to 'bringing Malaccans together and Melaka to the world'.

To achieve this there are two main sections to the site:

1. Tourism Melaka

This section is dedicated to bringing Melaka to the world and is a comprehensive insight into Melaka. This is achieved by a simple break down of the fundamentals that make it an amazing place- its history, culture, foods, shopping, sights etc. Providing a simple yet comprehensive structure such as this allows users to get a feel and taste of Melaka in hopes of them either learning more about the place or even being enticed to go there! Each section e.g. History, will then be aimed at providing information on that topic. With elements such as images, video images, time lines, contacts, publications etc being accessed.

The incorporation of e-commerce elements such as Hotel bookings, tour bookings etc will provide an extra element of business plus more features to the site for users to access. This will then make it like a 'one stop site' with no need to go to multiple sites to access information on Melaka.

2. Melaka United

Melaka United will be designed as a way to bring Malaccans together. This section will provide users with an option to become a 'regular' to the site. A forum will allow for users to communicate with each other and provide a way for Malaccans to meet/communicate with other Malaccans (regardless of graphical location). News updates on the happenings in Melaka and access to all other information within the
whole site will then result in a culmination of both information and communication.

The whole site is actually a renovation on the original Tourism Melaka site which has been totally restructured to make it more 'user friendly' and also W3C compliant. Hopefully this will make it a much more popular site and will help bring more business to the Engmepho Company to whom it is being designed for.

Not Currently Implemented:

For this assignment I chose to revamp an existing website rather than create a new web presence. In undertaking this project I realised that the Tourism-Melaka website contained over 100 pages not including over 50 Adobe .pdf - All non compliant. As a result of this it would have been impossible to complete the entire website within the course timeframe.

This being the case I chose for the purpose of this course to complete one section of the Tourism portion of the site and work on the other numerous pages and .pdf's over the next month as a ongoing project for my portfolio. The section that is fully implemented is the History section.

As mentioned the website proceeds from the Default (introductory) page to either one of these two sections (users choice), Tourism-Melaka and Melaka-United. The Melaka United section is not implemented.

Within the Tourism-Melaka section you will find that only the History selection on the menu's will be active. All other menu Items relating to the main site content will take the visitor to a page that states the selection is unavailable.
