MELAKA RIVER MONORAIL TO OPERATE ON 31ST. AUGUST 2010

Melaka River Monorail system that travels from Taman Rempah to Jalan Hang Tuah will operate on 31st.August 2010.
It will travel about 1.6km from Taman Rempah to the Pirate Ship and Mini Roller Coaster. The journey is expected to take about 20 minutes and passengers can view the Melaka River and Melaka City. 3 trips are expected per hour.
This new product is expected to attract tourists to view the Melaka River from the top.

Thailand Deputy PM Visits Melaka
MELAKA, July 27 (Bernama) -- Thailand Deputy Prime Minister Trairong Suwankiri and his wife and daughter on Tuesday visited the World Heritage City of Melaka.
They arrived from Kuala Lumpur at 3pm and were greeted by Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam and chairman of the Melaka Tourism, Culture and Heritage Committee Datuk Seet Har Cheow and senior state government officers.

Petronas Gas expects to complete a study on the proposed construction of Malaysia's first liquefied natural gas import terminal before the end of the 2010.
Chairman Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin said the installed capacity of the plant is about 3.5 million tonnes (139 million cubic feet) per annum.
Petronas Gas is open to the possiblity of any third party, other than Petronas, which wanted to bring in gas into the country to meet shortage in supply, Wan Zulkiflee told reporters.

Melaka Focusing On Becoming Green State By 2020
MELAKA, July 23 (Bernama) -- Melaka is focusing on becoming a "green state" by 2020 after its aim to be a developed state is achieved by this Oct 10.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam said the state government would take full advantage of its green technology and become a state rich in flora and fauna within the next 10 years.
NEW HANG TUAH BRIDGE TO BE READY IN OCTOBER 2010

It has been reported in the press that the new Jalan Hang Tuah Bridge will be ready by October 2010.
The old Hang Tuah bridge, next to the old Cathay cinema, was demolished last year. The old bridge had piles stuck into the Melaka River and these piles tend to restrict the water flow.
The new bridge will be have arch construction and no piles are piled into the Melaka River. This helps in reducing water flow in the river.

Melaka's diverse culture its strength
BANDA HILIR - Melaka's unique history and its diverse culture are two of its main assets which had contributed to the State being acknowledged as United Nations Education, Science and Cultural Organisation's (Unesco) World Heritage City.
Chinese Health Minister, Dr Chen Zhu said the constant and ongoing efforts by the State Government to preserve and maintain Melaka's rich cultural heritage as one of its main tourist attractions has made the acknowledgement more worthwhile.
MELAKA TRAM PROJECT AWAITS ASSESSMENT REPORT

During weekends and public holidays, Melaka is choked with traffic from the Ayer Keroh toll gate and Simpang Empat toll gate.
If the tram stops near to the Ayer Keroh toll and has a terminal stop there, visitors can drop off at the Ayer Keroh toll and take the trams into the Melaka City.
Being eco-friendly trams, they can help reduce the carbon footprint into Melaka World Heritage City.

Tram project awaits assessment report

MALACCA: The state government is waiting for the heritage impact assessment report from the Heritage Department for its proposed tram project which it says would reduce congestion in major thoroughfares.
It is also waiting for the green light from the Railway Department, state heritage committee and the Malacca Historical City Council.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam said the state government would also write to Unesco for its approval.
