Another direct flight into Melaka

BATU BERENDAM – The tourism industry in Melaka received another shot in the arm when the State's newly opened international airport received yet another direct flight from Pekan Baru, Indonesia.

The twin-turboprop ATR 72 short-haul regional airliner made its maiden flight and landed at the Melaka International Airport (LTAM) here about 12.45pm, carrying with it some 60 passengers.

Prior to this, another Indonesian airline, Riau Air, has been operating flight between Melaka and Pekan Baru over the past few years.

Melaka Tourism To Get A Boost With Air Links With Pekan Baru

MELAKA, July 9 (Bernama) -- Melaka's tourism industry is expected to get a boost following the introduction of daily air links with Pekan Baru in Sumatra.

Wings Air, a subsidiary of Indonesia's low-cost carrier, Lion Air, Friday started its service from Pekan Baru to Melaka Friday.

The inaugural flight, with 60 passengers, departed from Sultan Syarif Qassim II International Airport and arrived at Melaka International Airport (MIA) in Batu Berendam at 12.45pm.

Historians Urged To Ascertain Ancient Melaka-China Relations

MELAKA, July 5 (Bernama) -- Historians and academicians have been urged to make a resolution based on accurate historical facts on historical relations between the ancient Melaka Sultanate and the Chinese Empire which began in the early 15th century.

Melaka Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Mohd Khalil Yaakob said they need to conclude an accurate historical interpretation on relations between Melaka and the Chinese Empire to determine whether certain differences were true or merely concocted.

Delay in monorail project

MALACCA: The much-awaited opening of the RM15.9mil monorail project along the Malacca River has hit a snag.

The developers are not likely to meet the Aug 29 deadline for the official launch of the project despite Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam assuring the public that it will be fully operational by then.

Melaka latest tourism products will be ready for public usage by 31st. August 2010.

These two products are the Melaka Monorail and Roller Coaster.

The Monorail project will be shuttling passengers along the Melaka River from Taman Rempah just before the Hang Jebat bridge to Hang Tuah station at Jalan Bunga Raya.

Built at the costs of RM 15.2 Million, it is expected to carry about 1200 passengers per month.

Besides the Monorail, the Roller Coaster will also be ready by 31st. August 2010.
