Promoting Melaka & Melaka New Chinatown to the World

FORMER HANG TUAH BRIDGE HAS BEEN DEMOLISHED

22nd.February 2010

For me and all Malaccans who celebrated the recent Chinese New Year of the Tiger in Malacca, you will have noticed that the old Hang Tuah Bridge, next to the former Cathay Cinema, has already been demolished.

The old bridge had piles piled in the Melaka River which narrows the water flow of the Melaka River.

From our sources, the new Hang Tuah Bridge will be a suspension bridge i.e. no piles will be constructed inside the Melaka River. By doing so, the water will flow smoothly and boats can easily pass below the bridge.

Also, the former pedestrian bridge besides the Cathay Cinema, is now re-constructed. Looks like the bridge of Venice.

The Melaka River is getting prettier by the day and hopefully, we can keep it as clean as ever for our future generations to come.
