An arts fest will be held to celebrate Malacca’s status as a Unesco World Heritage Site, writes DENNIS CHUA.

FOR the first time, the historic city of Malacca is having its very own arts festival, for three days beginning tomorrow. The Melaka Art And Performance Festival 2009 (MAP 2009) is a celebration of music, visual art, dance and film that simultaneously pays tribute to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) World Heritage Site.


The festival is organised by E-Plus Entertainment Productions with the support of the Malacca State Government and the Information, Communication and Culture Ministry.

Firefly's Sept 1 date for flight to Singapore

MALACCA: The country's first community airline, Firefly, will begin its maiden flight to Singapore from Batu Berendam Airport here on Sept 1.

The Malacca-Singapore route would have three flights a week -- on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

As an introductory offer, the tickets for the one-way trip from Malacca to Singapore would be available at only RM88.

Managing director Eddy Leong said the Firefly flights would leave the Batu Berendam Airport at 4.10pm and land at the Changi Budget Terminal in Singapore at 5.10pm.

ALOR GAJAH, April 17 (Bernama) -- The Tourism Ministry will disburse RM4.1mil to maintain and upgrade tourism infrastructure projects in Melaka.

State Tourism, Culture and Heritage committee chairman Datuk Seet Har Cheow said the projects were at Tanjung Bidara, Pengkalan Balak, Padang Kamunting, Dataran Alor Gajah and Seri Tanjung Homestay at Masjid Tanah.

Speaking to reporters after opening the RM5mil Medan Ikan Bakar at Komplek Terapung Fort Supai, Kuala Linggi here, he said the state government has applied for RM25mil to develop the project's second phase.
